Decay

In "To Decay", pen and ink marks woven through the succulent’s leaves echo the cycling thoughts experienced by Hixson’s grandmother during her fight with Alzheimer’s disease. The repeated, looping forms suggest memory returning and receding, caught in patterns beyond conscious control. Rather than framing decay as loss alone, the work honors the interior experience of the illness, holding space for dignity, persistence, and the quiet complexity of a mind in transition.
